Let's Make Your Journal!
01 — Gather Your Inspiration
Start by exploring the papers, textures, and little treasures on your tray. Think about the colors, patterns, and overall feel you'd like your journal to have. There's no right or wrong way to begin.
02 — Build Your Pages
Start with your 15-sheet blank paper insert as the foundation. Mix in your favorite art papers, rearrange the order, and experiment with different combinations.
03 — Make It Yours
Time for the fun part! Use paper scraps, stickers, ribbons, lace, and metallic crayons to personalize your pages. Try layering, collaging, drawing, or adding little pockets for keepsakes.
04 — Play With Transparency
Use your clear sheets as the front and back covers. Experiment with placing decorative papers or artwork underneath the transparent covers to create a layered look.
05 — Punch & Assemble
Once you're happy with your page arrangement, carefully align your papers and covers. Use the hole punch at the shared table to make two evenly spaced holes along the binding edge, keeping the holes aligned across all sheets.
06 — Put a Ring on It
Thread your two metal binder rings through the holes and snap them closed. Your journal is officially coming together.
07 — The Finishing Touches
Tie ribbons or lace around the binder rings, add your favorite stickers, or make a few last-minute details. Are we keeping it minimal or go all out?
08 — For the Record
Your one-of-a-kind journal is ready to take home. Fill it with thoughts, sketches, photographs, memories, or whatever life brings your way.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Experiment with different page arrangements before punching holes.
Keep your punched holes aligned so the pages turn smoothly.
Leave enough space around the binder rings for easy page turning.
Layer layer layer! Mixing different materials and textures is what makes junk journaling special.
Take care when using the X-Acto knife and always cut on a protective surface.
